I had my second knee replaced four days ago. Just like with the first knee done four months ago, it was an excellent experience. Great care is provided by Dr Smith, his team and the hospital. It is painful of course but each day gets easier. I am grateful to the whole team of doctors and nurses at the Baptist! -

Dr. Smith convey both his confidence and caring despite being a very busy surgeon. He replaced my knee in September and a month later I am doing so well and out of pain other than a few tinges now and then. The whole hospital and his team are behind this effort and help to create knowledgeable and helpful support. I highly recommend Dr. Smith and New England Baptist Hospital. -

On October 25, 2019, Dr. Smith literally changed my life. My right knee was such that no orthopedic surgeon on the Cape would touch it. The joint was completely out of joint & walking was becoming extremely difficult. He took me on as a patient when no one else would and gave me a result that was a near miracle, and took care of me like I was his favorite aunt. -

Dr. Smith performed hip revision surgery, and discovered cobalt and chromium in my blood. The surgery was successful. He not only got rid of my pain, but he possibly saved me from liver damage and going blind. Great to communicate with and listened to my concerns. Knows his stuff!! -

Dr. Eric L. Smith of NE Baptist Hospital was my surgeon for my 2nd total knee replacement. It’s been a year since my successful surgery.. I am so grateful to him, his office staff and the Baptist Hospital team. My first knee replacement at BI was the worst medical experience of my life. I rate my success on these factors: Dr. Smith is a skilled surgeon. We met, I explained my fears, he took a lot of time and talked about how my surgery would go. I opted for the Conformis Knee which is a custom knee molded to your leg. It made a HUGE difference in my l recovery . It’s marketed towards athletes, but I notice a big difference when I compare my knees. Pain Management - The opioid epidemic has forced docs to cut way back on pain meds. I believe the pendulum has swung too far in the current direction, but I was not denied refills I needed for successful physical therapy. Physical Therapy - I wouldn't have the surgery unless you commit to PT. THANK YOU Dr. Smith

Before meeting Dr. Smith, we sought a knee replacement consultation at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, where we were told that surgery was not recommended and would not be worthwhile. This was devastating to hear, as my mother had lived with chronic knee pain, severe functional limitation, and declining independence for many years.
Dr. Smith’s evaluation was completely different. He approached my mother’s case with clinical precision, careful assessment, and genuine empathy. He took the time to understand not only her imaging and medical history, but also how profoundly her condition affected her daily life. Based on his expert judgment, he explained that knee replacement surgery could meaningfully restore function and dramatically improve her quality of life. His confidence was grounded in experience and evidence, and it gave us hope at a moment when we had very little.
Dr. Smith performed a highly successful knee replacement surgery, and the results have exceeded our expectations. Within just three weeks, my mother was able to walk independently, bend her knee to 104 degrees, and perform movements and daily gestures she had not been able to do for more than ten years. Watching her regain mobility, confidence, and independence has been profoundly emotional for our entire family.
Dr. Smith represents the very best of medicine—exceptional surgical skill, sound clinical judgment, and deep compassion for his patients. We trust him completely and would recommend him without hesitation to anyone seeking an orthopedic surgeon who truly changes lives.
